Hi, I’m Taylor Thackaberry!
I’m a writer specializing in Young Adult, contemporary, science fiction, and fantasy. I love to write stories about smart young women who make poor decisions for very good reasons.
I have a background in comedy, and my sardonic voice leaks into the voice of my characters, but I am an optimist at heart. That’s why I write for young people; I believe stories of hope and creativity are the secret to a brighter future. They are also faced with one of the greatest quests a person can undertake: finding who you are. I hope readers can find themselves through my characters.
My work has been featured in Uncharted, The Summerset Review, and boats against the current, among others. My poetry was longlisted for the Steger Poetry Prize. I’m currently working on my debut novel, a contemporary YA about a young woman in STEM battling perfectionism and jealousy while pursuing video game development in college.
In my day job, I’m a software engineer working in the video game industry. I love to bring the same eye for detail and enthusiasm for the impossible that I use as an engineer to my writing, as well as my personal experience as a woman in this field.
Originally from Virginia, I now live in Seattle, Washington, with an irresponsible number of houseplants. In my free time, I play the cello in a community orchestra, where I play everything from classical symphonies to video game soundtracks.
